Emma Powers Student of the Year Award

The highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community. $1,000 award.

Christopher M. Carey Customer Service Award

The Chris Carey Service Award is awarded to a Dining Services student employee who demonstrates excellent customer service to others in the campus community. $1,000 award.

Patricia S. Higgins Scholarship

The Pat Higgins Scholarship is awarded to a University of Maryland student who is either a current UMDS employee or is the child of a current UMDS employee. $1,000 award.

    • The Rebecca Williams Award is given to a UMD student who has demonstrated by actions and beliefs a personal commitment to advocating change in issues and values.

    • Chef Will will represent the Mid-Atlantic Region at the national conference in Indianapolis in July 2015, competing against five other regional winners.

    • The Nancy W. Carrier NACUFS Mid‐Atlantic Region Scholarship gives honor to a NACUFS Mid‐Atlantic Student Employee for outstanding work performance, academic achievement, and extra‐curricular activities.

  • Grand Prize for Excellence in Sustainable Dining at the NACUFS national conference – Allison Lilly
    • UMD DS was awarded the Gold Medal for Waste Management for its community engagement program featuring compost collection, waste sorting, reusable carryout and collaboration with the Food Recovery Network. The program is supported by an educational program that includes the Green Dining Internship Program, Sustainable Food Working Group, and Peer Education Volunteer Program.
  • Students Affairs Outstanding Service Award – Tesfaye Bogale, Multi-Trade Supervisor II
  • Students Affairs Outstanding Service Award – Carlotta Botvin, Catering Manager
  • President’s Distinguished Service Award – Tesfaye Bogale, Multi-Trade Supervisor II
    • Tes is an electrician, known for going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that students, staff and faculty have a great experience with Dining Services. He has been known to shovel dining hall roofs in the snow and pitch in to grill burgers at concessions.
  • President’s Distinguished Service Award – Joe Mullineaux, Senoir Associate Director
    • Joe is a Senior Associate Director. Ever since he was a student dishwasher at Maryland over 30 years ago, Joe has dedicated himself to providing the best experience for everyone who steps into the dining halls. He was instrumental in bringing the Farmer’s Market to campus and the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the University of Maryland with the world’s largest strawberry shortcake.

    • Celebrating this achievement are Dan Pierce – Project Manager, Greg Thompson – Assistant Director Dining Services, and Joe Mullineaux – Senior Associate Director Dining Services.
