Reusable To-Go Containers
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why Reusable To-Go Containers?
It will save you $0.25 every time you carryout. Also, while our bagasse carryout containers can be composted, not all of campus provides composting options. Therefore, using a reusable container helps to reduce landfill waste and saves resources.

Q: Is this a permanent part of the Dining Plan?

Q: How do I get started?
If you have a Resident Dining Plan, you received a postcard in the mail over the Thanksgiving break 2011 inviting you to participate when you go home for Thanksgiving. If you do not have your postcard or do not have a meal plan, get started at the dining halls by requesting a container and paying $5 at check out.

Q: How does it work?
1. Bring your postcard to the North Campus Dining Hall or the South Campus Dining Room to redeem for your one free reusable container.
2. When you want to eat to-go, ask the server for a reusable to-go container.
3. Present your postcard (and later your token) to the cashier as payment for the container only.
4. When finished with food rinse or wipe out the container.
5. Go to the OZZI machine and follow the directions and redeem your container for a token that can be used on your next take out purchase.

Q: How does my container get cleaned?
After you deposit your container in the OZZI machine, Dining Services will run it through our industrial strength dishwasher at a temperature of 180 degrees. That’s 60 degrees hotter than your standard home dishwasher.

Q: What if I don’t have a postcard or token?
If you do not have a token you may purchase the container for $5 with your dining points, cash or credit card.

Q: What if I want a second container?
If you would like to purchase a second reusable container, you may do so for $5 with your dining points, cash or credit card at the checkout.

Q: Can I redeem my postcard or token for cash?
No, you may not redeem tokens for cash.

Q: Why can’t I just re-use my container without redeeming it for a token?
For health and safety concerns only clean and sanitized containers may be used in the service area. By returning containers for proper cleaning you are protecting the safety of everyone who dines with us. For the same reason we ask that you do not use your own containers.
