The UMD Campus Pantry helps Maryland students, faculty, and staff experiencing food hardship by providing emergency food. As the Pantry begins its second year, we are holding a campus wide food drive to Fill the Campus Pantry! What sorts of foods does the Pantry need? All non-perishable donations are welcome! (Please no expired foods or damaged/open containers.) Here’s a list of what we need the most this fall:
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruit
- Canned soup (low sodium)
- Canned beans (low sodium or no salt added)
- Canned fish or meat
- Reusable bags
Anyone is welcome to host a food drive in their office, residence hall, department, or student group. If you would like to host your own food drive, the Campus Pantry will supply you with flyers and any other materials you need. You can schedule a pick-up of your foods from your building by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 301.314.8054.
Individuals can also drop off donations at the Pantry, in the Heilsa Conference Room (room 0141) on the ground floor of the Health Center, every Monday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The Health Center is outlined below, and you can also find the best route from your building to the Health Center at maps.umd.edu.
Financial contributions are also welcome, and can be made online here.
If you aren’t able to donate or hold a food drive, please help us spread the word about the pantry! Sharing information with your classmates or colleagues will help us encourage more donations on campus, and get word of the Pantry to Terps in need. Spread the word by sharing this blog post or following us on Facebook and sharing our updates with on your newsfeed.
