Allergy and Special Diets Advisory Board
The Dining Services Allergy and Special Diets Advisory Board was organized by the University of Maryland Department of Dining Services to improve dialogue with and respond to students with food allergies and special dietary needs.
Topics addressed by the Allergy and Special Diets Advisory Board include food allergies, dietary intolerances, medically restricted diets, religious dietary restrictions, and vegetarian/vegan diets.
Goals of the Allergy and Special Diets Advisory Board include:
• Compassionate, informative, and cost effective service for all Dining Services guests
• Respect for every guests’ dietary needs
• Outstanding communication between DS staff and UMD community relating to food allergies and special diets
• Continual refinement of education and training relating to the needs of guests with allergies and special dietary requirements
Any current UMD student can join the Advisory Board. The Advisory Board is chaired by the Department of Dining Services’ Quality Manager and Nutritionist. Advisory Board participants include the Director of Dining Services, Senior Executive Chef, Assistant Director of Communications, and the Sustainability and Wellness Coordinator.
