Thanksgiving and Finals Week Information

Updated November 18, 2020

The University continues to remain focused on our community’s health and safety, and maintains this priority in decision-making.

  • Recently, the nation experienced its highest one-day total in positive cases.
  • Maryland Governor Larry Hogan urged Marylander’s to stay vigilant in our collective actions to prevent the spread of the virus.
  • Leaders in Prince George’s County, where our campus is located, have issued significantly stricter guidance.

A number of students have decided to remain on campus over the break. As we continue to consider how to best ensure their health and safety, we are pleased to share that we are opening The Diner for limited hours serving a limited carryout menu each day of the holiday break. Dining plans and Dining Dollars will be accepted.

Friday, November 27 Closed
Friday, December 4 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

I see that The Diner is open for lunch and dinner only (during break). Do I still get three meals swipes per day?

Yes, you can use your meal swipes during those two meal periods or can use them in the South Commons Shop. Each meal swipe you use at the Shop decreases the number of times you can go into The Diner that day.

What do I get if I use a meal swipe at the Shop?

Each swipe can be used for up to seven dollars in food and beverages at the South Commons Shop. In addition, you can have a fountain soda – free – with each resident swipe purchase. If you spend more than seven dollars, you can pay the difference with Dining Dollars, Terrapin Express or credit card.

Remember that each time you use a swipe for food and beverage purchases at the South Commons Shop, you have one less entry to The Diner for that day.

Will Fall 2020 Dining Dollars roll over to Spring Semester?

Under normal circumstances Dining Dollars do not roll over; they are part of one-semester dining plan contracts. However, due to the global COVID-19 public health crisis and the University recommendation that students finish the semester remotely, under certain specific circumstances unspent Dining Dollars will roll over from fall to spring this year.

Resident Student Dining Dollars: If you have a Resident Dining Plan, and you indicate to Resident Life that you are leaving campus at the start of Thanksgiving Break and not returning to campus this semester, then your unspent Dining Dollars will roll over to Spring 2021 Semester.

Students with Optional Dining Plans:  If you have purchased any of the Optional Dining Plans, and you indicate to Dining Services that you will be completing the semester remotely and not returning to campus this semester, then your unspent Dining Dollars and unused Connector Meals will roll over to Spring Semester. Email to request a rollover.

We will continue to provide dining and retail opportunities to the campus through the end of the Fall semester December 22, 2020. Because we are open and providing services, roll over will not apply to any Dining Dollars or Connector Meals owned by students who use campus services and/or visit dining locations after November 24, 2020.

Dining Dollars and Connector Meals that roll over to the Spring Semester will be available to students starting January 25, 2021 and will expire on May 20,2021.
