2017

 

Enrique Hernandez won the 2017 Chris Carey Service Award. The Chris Carey Service Award is awarded to a Dining Services student employee who demonstrates excellent customer service to others in the campus community.

Kathy Zhang won the 2017 Stamp Memorial Award.

Briana Harrell won the 2017 Emma Powers Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for her exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

David Bullock and Allison Tjaden were recognized for winning the Students Affairs Outstanding Service Award at the End of the Year Celebration at the Eppley Recreation Cente.

2016

Jochebed Cadet received the Patricia Higgins Scholarship. The Pat Higgins Scholarship is awarded to a University of Maryland student who is either a current UMDS employee or is the child of a current UMDS employee. Jochebed is the daughter of Fenol Cadet of Dining Services Stamp Food Court and works as a student employee at the Coffee Bar in The Stamp Union.

Chuck Aldridge won the the Ron Athey Lifetime Achievement Award for Concessions. Since June, 2011,  Chuck has been serving a four-year term as a board member progressing from secretary to president. The Ron Athey Award was established to recognize individuals for outstanding service to the collegiate concession industry as either a concessionaire or a vendor. Recipients have provided a significant level of commitment and service beyond department, university or industry.

Sister Maureen Schrimpe, Nutritionist and Quality Assurance, won Gold Award in the Horton Competition for Most Innovative Wellness and Nutrition Program at the 2016 NACUFS national conference. The program was designed with the help of student nutritionists.

Yakemi Wilson wins the Emma Powers Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for her exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

Mark Schwab wins the Chris Carey Service Award. The Chris Carey Service Award is awarded to a Dining Services student employee who demonstrates excellent customer service to others in the campus community.

Kathy Zhang wins the Rebecca Williams Award. The Rebecca Williams Award is given to a UMD student who had demonstrated by actions and beliefs a personal commitment to advocating change in issues and values.

2015

Will Chavez of Adele’s Restaurant with Adele’s Supervisor Jessica LeVeille. Will was the recipient of the 2015 Student Affairs Scholarship, given annually to one outstanding University of Maryland student employee in the Division of Student Affairs.Chef Will Rogers earned an ACF Gold Medal and took first place in the 2015 NACUFS Mid Atlantic Culinary Competition. Chef Will will represent the Mid-Atlantic Region at the national conference in Indianapolis in July 2015, competing against five other regional winners.

Caroline Cummings of Good Tidings Catering won the Emma Powers Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for her exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

Arthur Vivaldo won the Chris Carey Service Award. The Chris Carey Service Award is awarded to a Dining Services student employee who demonstrates excellent customer service to others in the campus community.

2014

Chef Tom earned a ACF Gold Medal and second place at the NACUFS National Culinary Competition.Lauren Fedewa, winner of the Nancy W. Carrier Scholarship for 2014. The Nancy W. Carrier NACUFS Mid‐Atlantic Region Scholarship gives honor to a NACUFS Mid‐Atlantic Student Employee for outstanding work performance, academic achievement, and extra‐curricular activities

Emilie Virgilio, recipient of the Chris Carey Customer Service Award. The Chris Carey Service Award is awarded to a Dining Services student employee who demonstrates excellent customer service to others in the campus community.

2013

Allison Lilly, DS Sustainability and Wellness Coordinator, receiving the Grand Prize for Excellence in Sustainable Dining at the 2013 NACUFS national conference. UMDDS was awarded the Gold Medal for Waste Management for its community engagement program featuring compost collection, waste sorting, reusable carryout and collaboration with the Food Recovery Network. The program is supported by an educational program that includes the Green Dining Internship Program, Sustainable Food Working Group, and Peer Education Volunteer Program.Tesfaye Bogale won the 2013 President’s Distinguished Service Award. Tes is an electrician, known for going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that students, staff and faculty have a great experience with Dining Services. He hs been known to shovel dining hall roofs in the snow and pitch in to grill burgers at concessions.

Joe Mullineaux won the 2013 President’s Distinguished Service Award.Joe is a Senior Associate Director. Ever since he was a student dishwasher at Maryland over 30 years ago, Joe has dedicated himself to providing the best experience for everyone who steps into the dining halls. He was instrumental in bringing the Farmer’s Market to campus and the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the University of Maryland with the world’s largest strawberry shortcake.

2012

The Green Building Council Stamp of Approval is given to the LEED Silver Certified Dining Hall, 251 North. Duncan Hawvermale received the first Chris Carey Service Award from Mr. and Mrs. Carey. The Chris Carey Service Award is awarded to a UMDS student employee who demonstrates excellent customer service to others in the campus community..

Jessica Lowy received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for her exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

2011

Maura Donovan received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for her exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.Dining Services Dietitian Sister Maureen Schrimpe received the 2011 Theodore W. Minah Distinguished Service Award – NACUFS’ most prestigious honor. Selection is based on outstanding and enduring contribution to the foodservice industry and to the association.

South Campus Cook Jimmy Cornelius was awarded the Students Affairs Outstanding Service Award at the End of the Year Celebration at the Eppley Recreation Center on June 11, 2011.

2010

Gabriela Rendoros received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for his exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

Evander Somerville received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for his exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

Johnny Li (son of Maolin Li, pastry chef in the Maryland Bakery) received the first Patricia Higgins Scholarship from Pat Higgins, retired Dining Services Director and Colleen Wright-Riva, current Dining Services Director. The Pat Higgins Scholarship is awarded to a University of Maryland student who is either a current UMDS employee or is the child of a current UMDS employee.

2009

Joe Mullineaux received the 2009 Student Affairs Outstanding Service Award , for his exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

Lauren Polovoy, Student Manager of Mulligan’s Grill and Pub, received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for her exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

2008

Benjamin Franich received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for his exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

Dining Services Dietitian Sister Maureen Schrimpe received the President’s Award from David Friend at the NACUFS 2008 National Conference.

Catering Chef Thomas Schraa won the NACUFS Region 2 Culinary Competition and competed in the NACUFS National Competition.

2007

Dining Services Director Pat Higgins received the prestigious Richard Stimson Award of Excellence in Service from the Residence Hall Association for her extraordinary service to University of Maryland students.

A Student Government Resolution, sponsored by SGA President Matt Verghese, is proposed and passed in honor of Pat Higgins’ service and dedication to the University of Maryland.

Sarah Kirkwood, Student Manager of the Maryland Golf Course Club House, received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for her exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

2006

Phillip Vogel, Student Supervisor for Good Tidings catering, received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for his exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

Dining Services receives the State Employees Risk Management Association (SERMA) Citation for Excellence in Risk Management.

2005

Dining Services Assistant Director Jean Bennett received the President’s Distinguished Service Award at the University of Maryland Faculty and Staff Convocation for dedication to creating a memorable and student-friendly dining experience on campus.

The president of the National Association of College and University Food Service (NACUFS) selected Dining Services Quality Coordinator and Dietitian Sister Maureen Schrimpe IHM, FMP, to receive the NACFUS Lichtenfelt Award for her volunteer efforts on behalf of the association.

Bart Hipple, Administrator of Convenience Shops, received a Citation by the Office for Organizational Effectiveness in appreciation for his extraordinary contribution as member of Peer Consulting Network to the advancement and improvement of campus community.

Keith Loh from South Campus Dining Room received the Emma Powers Student Employee of the Year Award, the highest Dining Services honor given to student employees, for his exceptional contributions to Dining Services and the campus community.

2004

FoodService Director Magazine named Dining Services Director Pat Higgins Food Service Director of the Year.
